The CHARLIE FUND is now set-up for donations.

The fund is being established by the NPA to be an on-going acknowledgement of all the important things Charlie Brumfield contributed to the sport of paddleball.

The funds will be used to help support and grow our sport. This will be accomplished through providing equipment to areas starting to build play, providing entries to National tournaments or in any way that will help push forward what Charlie was so instrumental in trying to grow.

The decisions on how to spend the funds will be a collaboration between the NPA and those players who were close to Charlie and can direct how the funds can be distributed in the best way to honor Charlie.

If you donate $50 or more, we will send you one of the limited commemorative Charlie Brumfield T-shirts we have available. Please contact PATTYGORDYB@GMAIL.COM with your t-shirt size and a mailing address after you make your donation.

We hope to memorialize Charlie in a way that would make him proud!

The event noted above was very large and successful. Family members, former pro racquetball players, racquetball players who were never pros, paddleball players, professional colleagues, and friends reflected on Charlie’s lifetime actions and character.

President Mike Czabala shared the following National Paddleball Association Executive Board-approved statement of intent at the gathering.

THE NPA WILL BE STARTING “THE CHARLIE FUND” IN CHARLIE BRUMFIELD’S NAME TO HONOR HIS MEMORY. THIS FUND IS BEING ESTABLISHED TO HELP PROMOTE PADDLEBALL, WHICH WAS ONE OF CHARLIE’S GREAT PASSIONS IN LIFE.

THE NPA ACKNOWLEDGES THAT WITHOUT CHARLIE’S STEADY AND ENTHUSIASTIC PROMOTION OF OUR SPORT, IT WOULD BE MUCH DIMINISHED TODAY. HIS MENTORSHIP OF YOUNG PLAYERS HAS TOTALLY CHANGED THE WORLD OF COMPETITIVE PADDLEBALL. HIS ENTHUSIASM IN BRINGING AN ENTIRE RANGE OF PEOPLE INTO THE SPORT – ALL AGES, ALL GENDERS, ALL CAPABILITIES PROMOTED THE SPORT OF PADDLEBALL TO NEW LEVELS IN THE LAST 20 PLUS YEARS.

HIS PRESENCE IN THIS SPORT WILL BE GREATLY MISSED, AND THE NPA WILL WORK DIGILENTLY TO PICK UP WHERE CHARLIE LEFT OFF.

THE FUND WILL BE USED IN MANY WAYS TO HELP THE SPORT GROW. FROM PROVIDING EQUIPMENT TO NEW AREAS THAT WOULD LIKE TO GROW THE SPORT, TO HELPING PAY EXPENSES TO GET NEW PLAYERS TO PLAY IN NPA-SPONSORED TOURNAMENTS.

THE NPA WILL BE SELLING COMMEMORATIVE CHARLIE T-SHIRTS THROUGH THE NPA WEBSITE AND WILL SET UP A SPOT WITHIN THE SITE FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE DONATIONS SPECIFICALLY TO “THE CHARLIE FUND”.THE NPA WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL TO ALL THAT CHARLIE BROUGHT TO OUR SPORT!
