The Board of Managers of the National Paddleball Association enthusiastically voted at its annual summer meeting to honor Lou Giampetroni, a giant of the sport, by renaming the Sportsmanship Award the Lou Giampetroni Sportsmanship Award.
Randy Wackerle designed and constructed the beautiful three-foot trophy several years ago. It was time for some repair, and changes were now needed to reflect the dedication. Lou and Sue’s children, Angela Leach, Thomas, Michael, and Dan Giampetroni graciously offered to pay for the refurbishing, including two large replacement plates listing the names of recipients, four small plates naming the award and the organization, a medium-size plate noting the dedication to Lou, and the reattaching of the angel on top.
The refurbishing was completed by Stadium Trophy in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The trophy is on display at the Intramural Sports Building at the University of Michigan, NPA style paddleball’s birthplace.
